Story[]

Ofelia is a dreamy, tales loving kid in the 1944 Spain. Her stepfather, the cruel Captain Vidal, hunt the Spanish Maquis who fight against the Francoist regime in the region. Ofelia spots a faun who announce to her that she is actually princess Moanna, daughter of king and queen of fairies. If she wants to come back to them, she must complete three tasks. She manage to do the two first, but at the expense of two fairies. The angry faun refuse to to reveal the third task to Ofelia.

Meanwhile, Carmen, Ofelia's human mother, pass away in childbirth. Ofelia run away from Vidal with her newborn brother, and arrive in front of the fairies's kingdom door. The faun arrives and tell her, that they will open with the blood of an innocent. Ofelia refuses to sacrifice her brother. Her stepfather shoot her, and Ofelia wakes up in front of the fairies's sovereigns, who welcome her. Meanwhile, Ofelia's nurse hold the little girl corpse in her arms, crying.

Trivia[]

-Ofelia appears in the movie Pan's labyrinth.

-Her kingdom is the fairies's kingdom.

-Despite the ending seems to indicate that Ofelia imagined the whole story with fairies, Guillermo del Toro assures that it is real. Thus only her human corpse died, and she resuscitated as Moanna.

-She shares this name with a Disney princess.

-Ofelia is certainly a changeling, a fairy baby placed in the cradle of an human baby at birth.
